Hydrofluoric Acid (HF) Alkylation is a refining process that mixes hydrocarbons from a fluidized catalytic cracking unit (FCCU) with a HF Acid catalyst, to make high octane gasoline. For decades, pumps and other equipment used in HF Acid Alkylation have been particularly vulnerable to corrosion, because HF Acid by its nature seeks out and attacks imperfections in cast components, leading to pump failures and product leakage.
Sundyne HMD has decades of experience in HF Acid Alkylation and has spent more than 7 years working with UOP to demonstrate and validate a proprietary pumping solution that safely & reliably handles HF Acid. The new proprietary solution developed by Sundyne HMD uses a specially adapted material design combined with a new validation method of Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) for the pump casing.
This solution is created exclusively for pumps entering HF Acid service. The unique material design coupled with HMD’s sealless magnetic drive pump technology ensures complete fluid containment and addresses the industry-wide issue of casting failures, offering the highest level of safety and reliability.
HMD Kontro’s specially-engineered and industry-approved offering for HF Acid provides operators with years of uninterrupted operation, while ensuring optimum pump performance, reliability and safety.
