The Prime Mover Series

Welcome to Prime Mover – a quick and informative series of web-based presentations that identify issues and discuss solutions for common pump & compressor applications. The Prime Mover Series shares insights from pump & compressor experts through brief (15 minute) presentations, with 10-minute Q&As from audience members, who are EPC professionals and plant operators directly engaged with the topic areas. All sessions will be recorded, and made available for convenient, on-demand viewing.

Stay tuned for more details. We expect to launch the first session in March 2026. Below is a quick summary of the topics we plan to cover:

1

When to Select a Sealless Magnetic Drive Pump

Presenter: Hannah Verrall, Product Line Manager, HMD Sealless Pumps
Which applications are best served by a sealed or a sealless pump, and what criteria helps operators decide? This session will discuss a range of topics, including safety, maintenance, reliability and performance. It will highlight the features & benefits of sealless pumps, and it will present lessons learned from hundreds of deployments in the field.

2

Pumps for Liquid Amines

Presenter: Jason Fouraker, Title TBD
Liquid amines reduce carbon emissions by chemically capturing CO2 from industrial gas streams before they reach the atmosphere. They are one of the most mature and widely used carbon-capture technologies available today. This session will illustrate how pumps circulate amines from strippers to absorbers, and it will identify which pumps are best suited for the pressures and flow rates typically found in Amine Scrubbing applications.

3

Compressors for Handling CO2

Presenter: Kerry Kramlich, Title TBD
This session will identify the technical, economic and safety challenges associated with compressing CO2. It will evaluate various compression stage scenarios. It will discuss proven techniques for maintaining temperature–pressure windows, and it will share lessons learned from dealing with impurities in CO2 and preventing compressor corrosion and material degradation.

4

Centrifugal Pumps for Trim Squirt and Shower Services in Paper Manufacturing

Presenter: Cory Wittwer
Trim squirts leverage high-pressure water streams to cut precise edges on paper traveling through fast-moving machines. Shower services deliver water and chemical solutions to various parts of the manufacturing process. This session identifies the pump pressures necessary for consistent performance; it discusses the economics associated with maintaining hydraulic equipment, and it presents the full range of features and benefits that centrifugal pumps bring to paper manufacturing applications.

5

Pumps in Sulfuric Acid Applications

Presenter: John Pesek
Sulfuric acid is an inorganic acid used to produce fertilizers, specialty chemicals, metals and refined petroleum products. Its extreme corrosiveness, toxicity and varying viscosities present challenges for pumps. This session will identify where sulfuric acid pumps are used, and it will describe the criteria that operators prioritize when selecting pumps for this service.

6

How to Specify Equipment from Fit-for-Purpose to Fully API Compliant?

Presenter: Keith Hamilton
Pumps and compressors are often packaged on a skid with auxiliary systems – such as lube oil, seals, cooling, and instrumentation & controls. The specification for each component can impact the reliability, mean-time between maintenance, lead-time and overall cost of the equipment. This session will identify the common questions that equipment vendors or EPCs should pose to owner-operators, in order to determine the right level of specification for a rotating equipment package.
